This Year's Thoughts And Feelings - Pandemic Issue

There is a massive gap in my blog posts but it's been a crazy time. I'm sure majority of the world can agree that this year has been one of the hardest times of our lives. Personally my boyfriend and I started this year on such a good note of buying our very first property and moving in mid January. We had so many plans and fun ideas of what our lives were going to look like until disaster struck a few months into 2020.

So around March, an announcement was made that the UK would be going into a full lockdown for the foreseeable future due to Covid 19. Life just went on pause and we didn't really know what to do. Money wise we were okay as a lot of companies were putting their employees on furlough for the time being. So with work being put on hold, it was slightly difficult to know how to fill our days and in turn keep our chins up.

Fortunately for us, we had just bought a house so to keep ourselves occupied we began decorating and painting our new home. Our first couple of trips resided at IKEA, Homebase and B&Q for paint, storage, shelving, and other little bits and bobs.

We hatched a plan to paint the bedrooms first with a nice clean white paint as most of our house was painted a horrible magnolia colour for some god forsaken reason. After painting the bedrooms, we worked our way down the hallway and the stairs which was such a challenge in itself but something that had to be done. Painting the walls white gave our house a new clean look, making it feel fresh and giving it a new lease of life. The last room to be painted white was our living room before we moved on to the kitchen. Our kitchen was also painted a strange magnolia, but instead of painting it white too, we chose a light grey colour for a different look which worked out quite well.

In terms of none house related things, we took on our own hobbies so we could spend some time away from the TV. I took on embroidery like the old lady I am but for reference I am only 24 years old. My boyfriend took on woodworking and made various furniture from shelving, a work desk and table legs for an upcycle project.

We are now near the end of the year (September) and looking at a second wave of Covid 19 and another lockdown. It's not looking hopeful at the moment and unfortunately it's taking a hit on my mental health as I'm sure it is for a lot of people. I think a lot of us thought this pandemic would only last a few weeks and things would go back to normal but alas we've had to adjust to a 'new normal' of wearing masks outside and staying 2 metres away from everyone. All we can really do right now is follow the government guidelines and keep ourselves safe throughout this difficult time and maybe, just maybe 2021 might bring us some clarity and hope.
